Craftsmanship at Loyalty Cottage Studio
The Loyalty Cottage Studio was established in 2023 and is based on the experience gained from working as a printed textile and wallpaper designer for several interior furnishing companies. My first position after graduating was to set up a mini-screen department, to supply clients with hand screen-printed colour samples based on archival document designs. I have also taught a range of art & design applications including running drawing and printing workshops.
My practice today has a hands-on craft approach to making, where I use a mixture of traditional and contemporary methods.
The creative process starts with an exploration through drawing and visual research. Using screen-printing as a technique allows for experimentation with different combinations of pattern, colour and fabric and develops to create new and sometimes unexpected design ideas.
The making process
At Loyalty Cottage studio everything is produced in-house, which includes the benefit of having a darkroom with an exposure unit to create silk-screens and a purpose built print table allowing for a range of traditional hand-printing techniques. Pigment dyes are mixed manually to achieve colour combinations to enhance a pattern. The hands-on approach provides the opportunity to explore the making process at each stage and develop a true engagement with the effects achieved, resulting in printed fabrics, which are both unique and individual. In a world of mass-produced textiles, hand-printing stands apart.
Textile products using natural fabrics
We produce beautifully crafted products including fabric lengths and home textiles, such as tea towels, napkins, cushions and bags. Lengths of hand printed fabrics are all made to order.
Fabrics and printing materials are all sourced in England
We provide a bespoke design and colour sampling service for lengths of fabric, cushions, wedding napkins tea-towels, even corporate t-shirts.
